ROME, Ga.- The Shorter volleyball team took care of business Saturday afternoon by sweeping King at the WinthropKing Centre for their sixth straight conference win.
The Hawks and Tornado kept it close in the first set, with Shorter maintaining the lead for the majority. The Hawks pulled away late on an 8-2 run to take the set. After a fast start by King, the Hawks regained control and took the lead at the halfway mark. Shorter once again closed the second set on an 8-2 run to establish the momentum.
Both sides played a tight third set, with neither team managing to gain an edge. Shorter battled back after the Tornado took a 20-18 lead by going on a 7-1 run to complete the sweep.
The Hawks had a well-balanced attack from both sides as Taylor Reese-Howell and
Caroline Sivills recorded seven kills to lead Shorter.
Brooke Thao and Helena Kelly recorded double-doubles with Thao dishing out 15 assists and 11 digs as Kelley respectively added 11 assists and 11 digs. Alongside Thao and Kelley,
Victoria Sparks and
Claudia Loyola led the way for Shorter defensively with Sparks adding 13, and Loyola with ten to round out the Hawks.
The win improves Shorter to 11-6 overall and to 8-1 in conference action.

The Hawks will remain in Rome as they host Young Harris this Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
