ROME, Ga. — The fans that made it out to the Winthrop-King Centre last were treated to an early Thanksgiving thriller. The Hawks welcomed Trevecca Nazarene for one final non-conference tip before the start of Gulf South Conference play. The Trojans pulled off the overtime win 84-80 to move Shorter's record to 2-2 overall.
The game started with both teams trading baskets and the game was close throughout the first half. Neither team could pull away from each other with the Trojans keeping the lead at 30-28 going into halftime.
Both offenses heated up quickly to start the second half. The Trojan's were led by Junior, Jalen Page who scored 31 points on the night. Shorter big man, Krei Kyncy was able to help the Hawks take an 8 point lead with 9 minutes to go in the game. Kyncy scored 14 points, all in the second half, including 2 huge threes to help build the lead.
Down the stretch it went back and forth until Hawks Senior, Grant Atchley made a clutch 3 in the corner to give the Hawks a 70-67 lead with 37 seconds left in regulation. Shorter than got a steal on the next possession by Sophomore, Chris Cole. The Hawks were unable to extend the lead at the line and Trevecca took advantage by getting a 3-point play from Junior, Jamal Cannady Jr. which sent the game into OT all tied up at 70.
Both teams traded baskets to start the overtime, but it was a huge drive from Trevecca big man, Tommy Gankhuyag who hit a cutting Pete Lambesis Jr. for a layup putting the Trojans up for good 84-80.
The Trojans were led by Page who scored 31 points and had 14 rebounds. The Hawks were led by Junior guard, Landon Tillman who finished the game with 18 points.
The Hawks will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 4PM in the Winthrop-King Centre to open up GSC play against the University of West Florida.
