ROME, Ga. — The Shorter Men's Basketball team continued their homestand by knocking off West Florida 78-73. With that win the Hawks move to 3-2 overall (1-0 GSC). The Argonauts fall to 2-3 overall (0-1 GSC).
Shorter was led by Ricky Knight Jr. who finished with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal.
The Hawks and Argonauts were all tied up at 40 at the half. The action was back forth and neither team was able to pull away. West Florida came out in the second half and was able to take a 10-point lead. The Hawks responded with a 13-0 run to give the home team the lead by 3 with 8:15 left to go in the game. Shorter was able to extend its lead to 71-64 and the Hawks never trailed again.
Ian Reith and Gary Clay Jr. also had double-digit points for Shorter with 16 and 15. Eight Hawks scored in the game, with 9 guys registering 10 or more minutes. Landon Tillman finished the game with 4 assists. Shorter was able to knock down the 3-ball going 11-22 (50%) from behind the arc. The Hawks also capitalized from the free-throw line going 19-23 (82%) including some clutch ones down the stretch to help hold off West Florida.
