PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C.--The Shorter Men's golf team participated in the 2022 Spring Bulldog Clash at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawley's Island, S.C., put on by Barton College both Monday and Tuesday. The Hawks played well in the tournament, tallying round scores of 293 (+13), 280 (E), and 280 (E) to finish third among the participants. With these scores, the Hawks beat four top 50 ranked teams including #19 Cameron University.
The Hawks were led by Senior
Luc Toupin (Pleumeur-Bodou, France). Toupin started the tournament slow with a 75 (+5) but quickly turned it around with scores of 65 (-5) and 69 (-1). The round-two score of 65 is a collegiate career-best for
Luc Toupin. He finished 5th individually in a field of 83 golfers.
Kade Mathner (Enterprise, AL) and
Ryan Jackson (Monticello, FL) were impact players for the Hawks in round three with a pair of 69's (-1). With three holes to play, Jackson was 3-over par but managed an incredible finish of birdie, eagle, birdie.
Following the event, the Hawks moved up 24 national ranking spots according to Golfstat Inc. They are now #42 out of 208 NCAA Division II teams.
The Shorter Men's golf team is back in action on March 7 and 8 as they travel to Memphis, TN. The event is held at Irene Golf and Country Club and hosted by Christian Brothers University.
