ROME, Ga. – The Shorter Hawks fell to the Georgia College Bobcats 13-9 in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.
The Hawks are now 10-6 on the season while Georgia College is now 9-5 after this afternoon's game.
Isaac Harkins made his college debut today and went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Georgia College plated the first run of the game in the top of the first.
Shorter took the lead after plating two runs in the bottom of the second.
Tyler McWillie hit a home run to plate the first run of the game for the Hawks. Shortly after this,
Jacob Pajer singled to the shortstop, and this scored
Kody Krause.
The Bobcats quickly tied the game in the top of the third after an RBI double. However, the Hawks scored two more runs in the home half of the third to take the lead again. McWillie singled up the middle, and this scored
Cory Mason and
Cameron Tilly.
Georgia College took back the lead in the top of the fourth after a three-run home run from Brandon Bellflower. However, Shorter tied the game again in the home half of the fourth after Tilly singled to left to score
Lyndon Weaver.
After a single and then a two-run home run to start the inning, the Bobcats plated five runs in the top of the fifth inning. This made the score 10-5 Georgia College.
The Hawks responded to this in the bottom of the fifth after Tilly hit a grand slam to make the score 10-9. These were the final four runs of the game for the Hawks.
The Bobcats scored two more runs in the top of the sixth and then an additional run in the top of the ninth.
Tilly was excellent today and went 5-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored. McWillie went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Pajer went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Chad Davis (L, 0-1) started for the Hawks today and surrendered five runs on five hits while striking out five in 3.1 innings pitched.
Peyton Holloway tossed 2.1 innings in relief, striking out two and giving up two hits.
