Offense Shines as Hawks Defeat Morehouse

ROME, Ga. – The Shorter Hawks defeated the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers 9-3 on Tuesday afternoon at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.

Shorter is now 3-1 on the season after today's game while Morehouse is now 0-1.

The Maroon Tigers plated the game's first run in the top of the second. However, the Hawks answered back quickly, and Norman Leon scored the first run of the game for Shorter in the home half of the second.

The offense came alive in the bottom of the third for the Hawks. Shorter scored four runs in this inning. Cameron Tilly doubled to center to score Jacob Pajer to start things off. Cory Mason then hit a two-run home run right after this. Shortly after the home run, Andres Ferreiro drove in Leon to plate the inning's final run. The score was 5-1 Shorter after this inning.

The Hawks plated another run in the bottom of the fourth. Mason had a sac fly to center that drove in Pajer.

The Maroon Tigers and Haws both plated runs in the fifth. Morehouse plated its second run of the game, and the Hawks scored two additional runs. Kody Krause scored on a wild pitch, and Jakob Woods doubled to center to score Ferreiro.

Morehouse scored their final run of the game in the top of the sixth.

Mason advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored to plate the final run of the game for Shorter in the home half of the eighth.

Mason went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI and a walk. Ferreiro went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI. Tilly went 1-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a walk.

T.J. Laramie got the start for the Hawks in today's game and tossed two innings, striking out two and giving up one run on two hits and three walks. Jonathan Pintaro (W, 1-0) pitched one inning in relief, striking out one and giving up one run on one hit and two walks.

Up Next

The Hawks return to action on Friday to start a weekend series with the Golden Rams of Albany State University. First pitch for Friday's game will be at 2 p.m. at the Ledbetter Baseball Complex. The Hawks will then face the Golden Rams in a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch of game one slated for noon.
