VALDOSTA, Ga.- The Hawks traveled to Valdosta for a matchup with the Blazers from Valdosta State. The Hawks fought back from the five-point halftime deficit to win the game 74-70.
The first half was back and forth, but the Blazers went into halftime with a five-point lead. Valdosta held their halftime lead until eight minutes into the second half when
Raphael Houssou tied the game at 40 on a three-point shot. For the next eight minutes neither team held more than a three-point lead. The Hawks broke that trend with three minutes to go in the game after a layup by Ralph Barnett. Shorter held off Valdosta for the last three minutes and won the game 74-70.
Mark Wilcox Jr. led the Hawks with 16 points and recorded two blocks.
Raphael Houssou followed with 15 points.
Grant Atchley was one rebound short of a double-double, but he scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Ricky Knight Jr. scored 14 points and recorded 7 rebounds. Six different Hawks scored points in this game and five of them scored over ten points. The Hawks led the Blazers in field goal percentage (47.3% - 40.6%), three-point percentage (28.6% - 28.0%), and free throw percentage (84.2% - 57.9%).
The Hawks will be back at home for the next three games to finish out the regular season. The first game will be on February 22
nd when the Hawks take on the Warhawks on Auburn-Montgomery. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
