Jekyll Island, GA - The Lady Hawks golf team traveled to Jekyll Island, GA to compete in the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial University at the par 72/6,036 yard Pine Lakes Course. The women's golf team was strong during the 36-hole event and finished 4th out of 17 teams. With 9 holes to play for the entire event, the team was only 3 strokes off the lead. Shorter University was led by Sophomore Abbie Cheney of Guyton, GA, and Freshman Kiara Hernandez of Burbank, CA. Cheney finished with a top-3 performance which included two rounds of 73. Her overall score for the event was 146 (+2). Hernandez shot rounds of 72-80 and finished T16 on the strong leaderboard. The Shorter Hawks shot 298 and 314 to total 612 (+36). SU beat out multiple teams ranked ahead of them on the National Golfstat rankings including Coker, Converse, and Newberry. The women's golf team competes again on Monday, October 31 at the Converse Fall Invite hosted by Converse College. The event will be held at Carolinas Country Club.
