ROME, Ga.- The Lady Hawks were back at home for their first home game of 2022 for a matchup with the Lady Chargers of Alabama Huntsville. This game was a hard-fought battle, but ultimately the Lady Chargers won the game, 76-73.
This game went back and forth with eight lead changes and 11 times the score was tied. Shorter held a two-point lead going into halftime (34-32) and started out hot in the second half with two layups by
Jasmine Gaines and a 3-pointer by
Kelly Pickett which extended the Lady Hawks lead to nine. The Lady Chargers came back in the last 4:30 of the third quarter scoring 11 unanswered points to tie the game at 48 with two minutes to go in the third. Alabama Huntsville held their ground in the fourth quarter and extended their lead to six points before Shorter got back to within two in the last minute of the game, but a free throw from Holly Harris put the game out of reach for the Lady Hawks.
Jasmine Gaines led the Lady Hawks with 25 points followed by
Ansley Barge who scored a season-high 20 points including five 3-pointers.
Tiara Lewis led the team with nine rebounds followed by
Jasmine Gaines who pulled down six rebounds.
Jasmine Gaines also recorded four steals in this game. The Lady Hawks led in field goal percentage (46.9% - 44.4%) and 3-point percentage (39.1% - 25.0%).
The Lady Hawks will continue their home stand on Wednesday January 12
th at 5:30 PM.
