Hawks Fall to Chargers in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- After a much-needed win over Mississippi College last Saturday, the Shorter Hawks returned to the hardwood on Saturday evening and faced off against the University of Alabama in Huntsville on the road. Unfortunately, the Hawks came up on the short end of an 81-60 losing effort. 
 
Shorter jumped out to a 13-6 lead early via a made 3-pointer by Ralph Barnett Jr. with 15:09 in the opening half. A dunk by UAH's Daniel Saylor put the Chargers back in front (14-13) minutes later, and the home team started to take the upper hand and took a 43-31 lead into the locker room. 
 
After UAH was up 17 at one point early in the second half, the Hawks cut the score to three (57-54), thanks to a Kendale Chambers Jr. 3-pointer with 11:07 left in the game. From there, the Chargers went on a 24-6 run to end the game at 81-60. 
 
Shorter's Ricky Knight Jr. led the Hawks in scoring with 20 points (including six 3-pointers) and was tied with teammate Jaden Dunham with a team-high six rebounds to go along with three assists. Barnett Jr. finished second on Shorter with 16 points and added a rebound and a steal. Teammate Chambers Jr. accounted for 13 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a steal. 
 
As for UAH (13-8, 6-6), Chaney Johnson put up a game-high 27 points and seven rebounds with an assist, a block and two steals. Dalton Dodd finished second on the team in scoring with 11 and had a rebound and a block. 
 
The Hawks (4-12, 1-10) will be back in action on Thursday, as they will face off against Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., at 8 p.m.
