Hawks Soar Past Falcons in Regular Season Finale

MONTEVALLO, Ala.- The Hawks were on the road to play the Montevallo Falcons for their final weekend series of the regular season. The Hawks run ruled the Falcons in each game this weekend, winning all games by at least 11 runs.

Shorter improved to 26-13 overall, and 23-13 in conference play. Montevallo fell to 12-24 overall, and 9-24 in conference play.

Game 1- Montevallo scored two runs in the first inning to give them an early 2-0 lead. The Hawks came back and tied it up in the second inning after Luis Acevedo hit a sacrifice fly to center field which scored Kobe Jones, and Jakob Woods grounded out to shortstop which allowed Bailey Gerstner to score. In the third inning, Cory Mason scored on a passed ball by the pitcher for Shorter to take the lead 3-2. In the fourth inning, Luis Acevedo then hit a solo home run to right field to extend the lead to 4-2. Nathanial Butterworth then doubled down the right field line which scored Jacob Pajer and Aaron Reardon and gave the Hawks a 6-2 lead. Kobe Jones then singled up the middle which scored Butterworth and gave the Hawks a 7-2 lead. In the seventh inning, Matt Christian reached on a fielding error by the pitcher which scored Kobe Jones to extend the lead to 8-2. Jakob Woods then reached on a fielding error by the right fielder which scored Bailey Gerstner and gave the Hawks a 9-2 lead. Aaron Reardon then hit a sacrifice fly to right field which allowed Matt Christian to score to make it 10-2. Luis Acevedo then scored on a wild pitch by Montevallo to extend the Hawks lead to 11-2. Kobe Jones then scored the final runs of the game by hitting a single through the left side to score Jacob Pajer and Jakob Woods and the Hawks won the game 13-2 and run ruled the Falcons.

Game 2- The Hawks got the bats going early when Kobe Jones reached on a fielding error by the first baseman which scored Nathanial Butterworth to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead. Then Bailey Gerstner singled to center field which scored Cory Mason to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. Matt Christian then hit a home run to left field which scored Bailey Gerstner and Kobe Jones to extend the Hawks lead to 5-0. In the second inning, Kobe Jones hit a sacrifice fly to second base which scored Butterworth to give the Hawks a 6-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Aaron Reardon stole home to extend the Hawks lead to 7-0. Kobe Jones then reached on an error by the second baseman which allowed Cory Mason to score to give the Hawks the lead 8-0. Matt Christian then doubled to right center which scored Bailey Gerstner and Kobe Jones to extend the Hawks lead to 10-0. In the fifth inning, Aaron Reardon hit a double down the left field line which scored Jakob Woods to give the Hawks a 11-0 lead. Then Butterworth doubled to left field which scored Aaron Reardon which was the final run of the game. The Hawks won the game 12-0 and run ruled the Falcons.
