MONTEVALLO, Ala.- The Hawks were on the road to play the Montevallo Falcons for their final weekend series of the regular season. The Hawks run ruled the Falcons in this game in seven innings.
Shorter improved to 24-13 overall, and 21-13 in conference play. Montevallo fell to 12-22 overall, and 9-22 in conference play.
The Hawks started the weekend off strong when
Cory Mason grounded out to second which allowed
Jacob Pajer to score and give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. The Hawks offense exploded in the third inning, scoring seven runs.
Luis Acevedo got the scoring started by reaching on a fielder's choice which scored
Cory Mason, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
Bailey Gerstner then singled to center field which scored
Cory Mason to make it a 3-0 lead. Then
Jacob Pajer singled to left field which scored
Bailey Gerstner and
Matt Christian to extend the Hawks lead to 5-0. Nathanial Butterworth stepped up to the plate and hit a double to right center which scored
Jacob Pajer and
Jakob Woods which gave the Hawks a 7-0 lead.
Cory Mason then singled to right field which scored Nathanial Butterworth to extend the Hawks lead to 8-0. In the fourth inning,
Bailey Gerstner tripled down the right field line which scored
Luis Acevedo and give the Hawks a 9-0 lead.
Jakob Woods then hit a sacrifice fly out to right field to score
Bailey Gerstner and give the Hawks a 10-0 lead. In the fifth inning,
Kaleeq Brannigan reached on the fielding error by the pitcher which scored
Jacob Pajer to make it 11-0. Luis Acevado hit a sacrifice fly to center field which scored Butterworth and gave the Hawks a 12-0 lead.
Matt Christian then stepped up to the plate and hit a home run to center field which scored
Kaleeq Brannigan and
Marshall Adams. To make it 15-0. Montevallo scored two runs in the sixth inning but were unable to comeback enough to keep from getting run ruled and Shorter won the game 15-2.
The Hawks will be back in action against the Falcons tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 2pm.
