Hawks victorious over #3 Lee in extra innings

<p><strong>CLEVELAND,Tenn. -</strong> The Shorter Hawks started their road series against #3Lee University on Friday. The Hawks took the first game in the series going into extra innings with an 8-7 win. Shorter snapped Lee's home winning streak for the first time this season. </p> <p>Shorter improved to 20-8 overall and 17-8 in GSC play on the weekend. Lee improved to 24-3 overall and 19-2 in GSC play on the weekend.<br />  </p> <p>What was thought to have been a pitcher's duel going into game one changed very quickly when the Hawks broke the game open in the top of the second. Nathaniel Butterworth started if off with an RBI single, which scored Bailey Gerstner. Then Jakob Woods hit into a fielder's choice, which scored Luis Acevedo. Justin Barnes continued the inning with an infield hit that scored Butterworth due to a throwing error. Matt Christian drew a walk on a wild pitch, which scored Woods. Which was followed by a double steal for the Hawks, Christian stole second, and Barnes stole home. The Flames did not waste time to respond, as Ryan Beamish hit a solo home run to right field. Beamish did it again for the Flames hitting a two-run shot to right, making the score 5-3. The Flames continued to show off their power as Dylan Standifer hit a solo shot to left and Brandon Daniels hit a solo shot to right to tie the game 5-5. Beamish continued to punish the Hawks as he roped a double down the right-field line, giving the Flames the lead. The Hawks tied the game back up in the eighth from a sacrifice fly from Corey Mason, scoring Don Frayer. The game stayed deadlocked and went into extras; the Hawks struck first in the top of the 12th.</p> <p>Aaron Reardon hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, which scored Peter Wittman. The Flames answered back in the bottom of the inning as Nate Bynum scored on a wild pitch. The Hawks scored the final run of the game in the top of the 13th as Mason hit a sacrifice fly to left, which scored Acevedo.</p> <p>The Hawks were backed by the conference's best pitcher Jonathan Pintaro, who came out of the bullpen for the first time all season and pitched six innings, 0 hits, three walks, and 10 strikeouts to pick up his eighth win of the year.</p> <p>The Hawks will travel back to Lee tomorrow for a doubleheader, first pitch @3pm.</p>
