CLEVLAND, Tenn. - The Shorter Hawks continued their road series against Lee University on Friday. The Hawks took the first game of the doubleheader and dropped game three to Lee. In-game one of the doubleheaders, Shorter wins an 11-6, and in-game two; Lee won 9-0.
Shorter improved to 21-9 overall and 18-9 in GSC play on the weekend. Lee improved to 25-4 overall and 20-3 in GSC play on the weekend.
Game 1:Â
Through the first two innings, this game had the making of being a pitcher's duel until the Hawks broke it open in the top of the third. Matt Christian smoked a double down the leftfield line to score Justin Barnes. The Flames answered back in the bottom half of the inning, as Justin Freeman had an RBI single. Dylan Standifer gave the Flames the lead in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double down the rightfield line. The Hawks struck back in the top of the fifth as Jacob Pajer had a two-RBI single down the leftfield line scoring Jakob Woods and Christian. Kaleeq Brannigan hit a no-doubter two-run shot into leftfield, scoring Pajer. The Hawks continued to pour it on as Christian ripped a two-RBI double down the leftfield, scoring Woods and Corey Mason. The Hawks put the game away in the top of the ninth; Luis Acevedo hit a two-RBI double into left-center, scoring Aaron Reardon and Pajer. Butterworth hit a two-run moonshot to score Acevedo. The Flames tried to mount a comeback, Adam Goolsby had an RBI single through the right side, Luke Hughes was hit by a pitch that scored a run. Then Goolsby scored on a balk, with the game's final run coming from an RBI single from Alan Smith.

The Hawks offense ran out of steam in game three, and the Flames roared back and played like the #3 team in the country, which gave the Hawks the series, making history for the first time taking a series from a top 5 ranked opponent.Â
Shorter will head to University of Alabama-Huntsville for conference seires opening up with a single game on Friday at 6p.m. and then a doubleheader on Saturday.Â
