Hawks Split Doubleheader in Hunstville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Shorter Hawks continued their road series this weekend against the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Friday. The Hawks dropped the first game of the doubleheader and won the second game against UAH. In game one of the doubleheaders, Shorter lost 9-5, and Hawks won 13-2.

Shorter improved to 22-10 overall and 19-10 in GSC play on the weekend. UAH improved to 13-14 overall and 11-12 in GSC play on the weekend.

Game 1: 

The Hawks struck first in the top of the second, as Luis Acevedo hit a solo shot into right field. The Chargers struck quickly in the bottom half of the second inning, as Griffin Rivers hit a two-run shot to right field, taking the lead. Kaleeq Brannigan started his hot weekend with a two-RBI single, scoring Acevedo and Nathaniel Butterworth to retake the lead for the Hawks. Brannigan struck again with a triple that scored Acevedo in the sixth inning. Corey Mason followed up with a single into right, which scored Brannigan quickly. The Chargers roared back in the bottom half of the inning as Landon Ezzell ripped an RBI double down the left field line. Rivers stayed hot for the Chargers, hitting a two-run shot to tie the game at five in the bottom of the sixth. The Chargers continued to pour runs on in the seventh as Will Acuff hit a solo shot to take the lead, and Ezzell hit an RBI single back up the middle. Acuff stayed hot as he hit an RBI double into left-center. The game's final run came from the Chargers as John Trousdale hit an RBI single to leftfield.

The Hawks looked to regroup quickly after dropping a very unusual game one.

Game 2:

The Hawks will go game two behind senior arm Taylor Boisclair, who picked up his fifth win of the season.

The Hawks broke things open in the top of the third as Brannigan continued to swing a hot stick this weekend as he hit a three-run moon shot over the left-center field wall. Mason flexed his muscles with a two-RBI blast over the right-center field wall in the top of the fourth. Bailey Gerstner added on as he hit an RBI single that scored Matt Christian. Kobe Jones drove in his first runs of the season, with a two-RBI ripped into center field, scoring Brannigan and Gerstner. The Chargers tried to spark their offense, as Dylan Johnston stroked a two-RBI single into center field. The Hawks offense stayed hot in the top of fifth as Mason and Christian went back to back home runs. The Hawks kept their foot on the gas in the sixth as Acevedo hit an RBI single into right field, which scored Brannigan. Jones was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning, scoring Mason. The Hawks drove in the last run of the game as Christian drove a two-RBI single into left field, scoring Aaron Reardon and Acevedo.

The Hawks will look to take the series win tomorrow, first pitch at 1 pm.
