HUNTSVILLE,Ala. - The Shorter Hawks finished their road series this weekend against the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday. The Hawks dropped the final game of the series against AUH. The Hawks lost a hard-fought battle in extra innings 4-3.
Shorter improved to 22-11 overall and 19-11 in GSC play on the weekend. UAH improved to 14-14 overall and 12-12 in GSC play on the weekend.
The Chargers wasted no time taking the lead in the bottom of the first as Landon Ezzell hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score the first run of the game. The Chargers added another run in the bottom of the second, as Daniel McCary hit into a fielder's choice but scored a run. Ezzell struck again for the Chargers, hitting a solo shot to right to give the Chargers a three-run advantage. After the third, the Hawks pitchers settled in and kept the Chargers off the board for the rest of the regulation. The Hawks finally found their way into the scoreboard. Kaleeq Brannigan continued to have a hot weekend, hitting bases-clearing double scoring Jakob Woods, Corey Mason, and Bailey Gerstner. After tying up the game, the Hawks forced extra innings to fall in the bottom of the tenth. John Trousdale hit a walk-off single into centerfield to win the game for the Chargers.
The Hawks will look to bounce back quickly, as they will have their final homestand of the season next weekend. Union University will come to town; the first game will be Friday, April 23rd, at 1 pm. Saturday will be a doubleheader with the first pitch at 1 pm.
