ROME, Ga.- After the Hawks won both games of the doubleheader Friday, they met up Saturday afternoon for the final game of the weekend series. Shorter improved to 19-8 overall and 16-8 in conference play, while Christian Brothers fell to 2-22 overall and 2-21 in conference play.
Ryan Parker was on the mound for the Hawks and got into some trouble in the top of the first inning after two singles were hit, but he was able to make it out of the inning unscathed. After that,
Ryan Parker settled down and pitched 8.2 innings and gave up five hits, one run and struck out seven batters.
The Hawks got the offense started in the bottom of the third when
Justin Barnes hit a double, then
Jacob Pajer hit a home run over the tall wall in left field which gave the Hawks a two to nothing lead. In the bottom of the fourth
Cory Mason walked and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Nathanial Butterworth then singled and advanced to second on the throw from left field to home plate.
Jakob Woods, who had the walk-off in the previous game, hit a fly ball to right field which allowed
Cory Mason to tag up and score. In the bottom of the fifth,
Matt Christian singled to left field and then stole second.
Bailey Gerstner then doubled to right field which scored
Matt Christian and extended the Hawks lead to four to nothing. The Bucs tried to mount a comeback in the top of the ninth with three errors committed by the Hawks in the inning they were able to score one run off of it before a swinging strike out ended the game four to one.
The Hawks will be back in action against #4 Lee Flames next weekend in Cleveland, Tennessee. The first game of the series will start Friday April 9
th at 6pm with a doubleheader the following day at 1pm and 4pm.
