CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Shorter volleyball team played two Gulf South Conference (GSC) matchups on Saturday afternoon in Cleveland. The Lady Hawks faced Lee University and Union University and fell 3-0 in both matches.
Shorter is now 0-5 on the season. Lee improved to 1-1, and Union improved to 2-0.
Shorter vs. Lee
The first two sets of the match were close with the Lady Hawks falling 26-24 in the first set and 25-22 in the second set. Shorter fell 25-17 in the third set.
Jade Smith, Lacee Glover and Gracie Childers led the way for the Lady Hawks offensively in the first match, each with 5 kills. Annie Smith had 21 assists for Shorter while Lacee Glover had 11 digs.
As a team, the Lady Hawks had 30 kills, 6 aces, 4 blocks, 28 assists and 44 digs.
Abby Stroh led the way for Lee offensively with 12 kills. Allie Whittinghill was not far behind with 11 kills. Emma Flowers had 28 assists for Lee while Hannah Upton added 12 digs.
Lee overall had 38 kills, 8 aces, 10 blocks, 34 assists and 45 digs.
Shorter vs. Union
Shorter fell 25-15 in the first set against Union. In the second set, the Lady Hawks were closer, but still fell 25-21. In the third set, Union defeated Shorter 25-14.
Taryn Cycholl led the way for Shorter offensively in this match with 8 kills. Annie Smith had 15 assists while Madison Sprosty added in 13 digs.
The Lady Hawks overall had 19 kills, 4 aces, 4 blocks, 18 assists and 48 digs against Union.
Meghan Delaney led the way for Union offensively with 11 kills. Jordan Vick had 28 assists and added in 16 digs for Union.
As a team, Union had 44 kills, 5 aces, 10 blocks, 37 assists and 62 digs.
