ROME, Ga – The Shorter Hawks (8-5) started off their homestand against in-state rivals The West Georgia Wolves (6-7). The Hawks went out behind ace Jonathan Pintaro, who looked to gain his fourth win of the season.

The heated rivalry was a battle of the aces through the first six innings, as Pintaro kept the Wolves at bay. The Hawks broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth, with an RBI single from Luis Acevedo. Putting the Hawks ahead 1-0, but sadly leaving the bases loaded to end the inning. Pintaro threw seven strong innings, striking out nine batters putting in another strong outing. The Hawks turned to their senior closer Kevin Ludden in the eighth to close out the game. The Wolves had a runner on first with two outs when Ethan Brant stepped to the plate—hitting a two-run shot in the top of the ninth to put the Wolves up 2-1.

Coach Wes Timmons and the Hawks look to regroup quickly, as the doubleheader against the Wolves starts tomorrow with an 11 am first pitch.
