MONTEVALLO, Ala.- The Lady Hawks traveled to Montevallo to play in the first round of the GSC Spring Championship Series against the Lady Tigers of West Alabama. This match was a nail-biter that continued to go back and forth, but in the end, Shorter came out with the win after five hard-fought sets by both teams.
The Lady Hawks dropped the first set, 23-25 but then flipped the script in the second set and won 25-23. The third set went to the Lady Tigers 20-25, but the Lady Hawks fought back in the fourth set and won 25-21. This meant that a fifth set was needed to determine the winner. Shorter had a four to nothing scoring run that put them ahead five to one to start the set. Shorter continued to build that lead to 13-4, but West Alabama still had some fight left and tried to make a comeback but were unsuccessful as the Lady Hawks went on to win the fifth set (15-10) and the match.
