Lady Hawks Claw Past Lady Tigers in GSC Spring Championship Series

MONTEVALLO, Ala.- The Lady Hawks traveled to Montevallo to play in the first round of the GSC Spring Championship Series against the Lady Tigers of West Alabama. This match was a nail-biter that continued to go back and forth, but in the end, Shorter came out with the win after five hard-fought sets by both teams.

The Lady Hawks dropped the first set, 23-25 but then flipped the script in the second set and won 25-23.  The third set went to the Lady Tigers 20-25, but the Lady Hawks fought back in the fourth set and won 25-21. This meant that a fifth set was needed to determine the winner. Shorter had a four to nothing scoring run that put them ahead five to one to start the set. Shorter continued to build that lead to 13-4, but West Alabama still had some fight left and tried to make a comeback but were unsuccessful as the Lady Hawks went on to win the fifth set (15-10) and the match.

The Lady Hawks were led by Lacee Glover with 18 kills followed by Jade Smith and Katherine Patrick who had nine kills each. Jade and Katherine also led the team in blocks with 10 and five respectively. Annie Smith had four aces and Lacee Glover had two.  Madison Sprotsy led the team in digs with 28 followed by Lacee Glover who had 18 and Taryn Cycholl who had 10.

The Lady Hawks will be back in action in Montevallo, Alabama Saturday, March 27th at 3 pm as they face the Montevallo Lady Falcons in the quarterfinals of the GSC Spring Championship Series.
