CLINTON, MS – The Shorter Hawks 13-6 overall and 10-6 in GSC play were on the road to take on Mississippi College 4-12 overall and 1-10 in GSC play. The Hawks went behind senior arm Jonathan Pintaro, who picked up his fifth win of the season by pitching seven innings and only allowed four hits and one run.
The Hawks continued their aggressive running on the basepaths early, as Nathaniel Butterworth scored on a wild pitch to take the early lead in the top of the second. Kaleeq Branigan showed off the power with an RBI double in the top of the third. The Hawks continued to pour it on in the top of the fourth, as Aaron Reardon drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI single from Justin Barnes, giving Pintaro a four-run cushion. The Choctaws scratched their first run across in the bottom of the sixth on a double steal, with Ken Scott stealing home. Pintaro threw a strong seven innings for the Hawks, only giving up one run and striking out 13. Butterworth drove another run for the Hawks on an RBI single, making the score 5-1. The Hawks' offense finished off the game in the top of the ninth, having a five-run rinning. Barnes scored on a balk, Corey Mason drew an RBI walk, Matt Christian hit into a fielder's choice, and Butterworth was scoring on a throwing error. The Hawks continued to take advantage of the Choctaws mistakes, as Luis Acevedo scores on a wild pitch. With the final run of the game being driven in by Jakob Woods, giving the Hawks a final score of 10-1.
The Hawks will look to continue their winning ways as they continue their winning streak of five in a row. The first pitch will be Saturday at 2 pm.
