Montevallo AL. -- Davide and
Mattia Maiello, freshmen twin brothers from Novara, Italy each scored to give the Shorter Hawks at 2-0 conference road win over the University of Montevallo.
Davide scored first 4 minutes into the second set up from
Hernan Saldana in a set piece. Brother Mattia provided the insurance goal in the 80th minute with an assist from
Val Evans
The Hawks had several chances as UM goalkeeper Casey Jones recorded 8 saves. Hawks keeper, Matt Shorrocks did not have a save in the shutout win as his defense limited good scoring opportunities for UM.
The Hawks outshot the host team 14-10 and also lead in corner kicks 9-2 to improve to 1-0-1 while falls to 0-3.
"I was very proud of the guys tonight," said Hawks Coach
Paul Furey. "We really came out after a sloppy first half and stepped it up. I'm happy for the twins both scoring their first collegiate goals tonight."
The Hawks will return back in action on Sunday, March 7th at home against Lee with kickoff set for 1p.m.
