CARROLLTON, Ga.—The Hawks traveled just up the road to West Georgia for a conference matchup on Friday night in the Coliseum Center where the Wolves came out on top 84-69.
With the loss the Hawks will fall to 4-10 while the Wolves improve to 9-6 on the season.
The Hawks started out the game by scoring the first two points of the game by Ralph Barnett but the Wolves quickly came to take the lead with a three-pointer from Michael Zabetakis. With a back and forth game, West Georgia took the lead with 13:38 left in the first half by a score of 11-9 . The Hawks were able to tie it up with 5:30 left in the first half by a layup from
Charles Botchway followed by a layup from West Georgia's Deng Nhial and then Ricky Knight struck with a layup to tie it back up and then a steal by Knight to go for the dunk and take it to 30-28 with just a little over three minutes left. The Wolves and Hawks went back and forth stealing the lead from each other, but the Wolves headed into the locker room with the lead, 37-35.
West Georgia started the second quarter off with a scoring rally that the Hawks were unable to catch up to. The Wolves kept the lead for the rest of the game.
Top leaders for the Hawks included Knight with a team high of 17 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Botchway added in twelve points, nine rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Rounding out the double digits scorers is Mark Wilcox with 10 points and five rebounds. West Georiga's Kadeim Jones scored a game high 30 points while Jalen Sasser added in another 18 points in the victory.
The return back in action at the Coliseum Center tomorrow, February 20 for a rematch against the Wolves with tip off slated for 2 p.m.
