ROME, Ga. – The Lady Hawks were unable to overcome a slow start against undefeated Valdosta State University (6-0) on Friday night at the Winthrop-King Centre, as Shorter (1-5) suffered a tough loss by a score of 79-57. The Lady Hawks found themselves down 14-0 to start the game but stuck in there and battled. They even outscored the Lady Blazers 16-14 in the third period, but Valdosta State pulled away in the fourth quarter.
Shorter's Chatham Brown led the Lady Hawks in both scoring (15 points) and on the boards (seven rebounds) in the game. Julia Peroni finished second on the home side with 12 points, including going 2-3 from behind the 3-point arc.
Valdosta State's Delaney Bernard put up a game-high 17 points, while teammates Kwajelin Farrar and Kayla Bonilla added 12 and ten, respectively. The Lady Blazers also had a field goal percentage of 80 in the first quarter, which set the tone for how the game would go.
The Lady Hawks will look to shake off the loss quickly and get their revenge against the Lady Blazers on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Winthrop-King Centre
