Lady Hawks Soar Past Argonauts

ROME,Ga.-- The Shorter Lady Hawks avenged their close loss to the University of West Florida on Friday by defeating the Lady Argos in a 73-70 thriller at the Winthrop-King Centre on Saturday afternoon to finish January on a winning note.

Shorter's Chatham Brown knocked down two clutch free-throws with seven seconds left in the game to extend the Lady Hawks' lead to three at 73-70. On the final possession, West Florida's Peyton Lewis missed a 3-pointer, and the loose ball rolled out of bounds as the final buzzer sounded to give the home side the victory.

The Lady Hawks (2-10) started the game out strong and stretched their lead to nine at the end of the first quarter at 22-13. The Lady Argos got some momentum in the second quarter and even tied the game at 38 via a made jumper by Aline Fevrier with 28 seconds remaining in the opening half. However, Brown's free-throw put the home team back in the lead at 39-38 going into halftime.

The Lady Argos came out of the locker room clicking on all cylinders, as they took a 52-41 lead with 4:42 left in the third quarter. From that point, the Lady Hawks clawed their way back in it, and it was a close, back-and-forth game from there until the end of regulation.

Shorter's Christian Bolden put up a game-high 24 points in the victory, including knocking down five 3-pointers and going perfect from the free-throw stripe (3-3). Bolden also accounted for three assists and three steals on the day.

The aforementioned Brown finished second on the Lady Hawks in scoring with 16 points to go along with her nine rebounds and four steals. Arguably, her biggest contribution was her day at the free-throw line, where she went 6-8. The visitors were paced by Fanni Hulmy's 20 points, while Lewis added 16 for the Lady Argos (4-5).

The Lady Hawks' next game will be next Friday, Febuary 5th as they travel to Cleveland, Tenn., to take on the Lady Flames of Lee at 6 p.m.
