Lady Hawks with the tough loss against the Argonauts

ROME, Ga—The Lady Hawks had a hard-fought battle with the Argonauts on Friday evening in the Winthrop King Centre. West Florida took the game with a final score of 71-64. Jasmine Gaines had a season high of 25 points.
Due to the loss, Shorter falls to 1-10 overall and West Florida evens their record to 4-4 overall.
Lady Hawks started out the game with a two point jumper by Gaines, then with a back and forth battle the Argos took the lead with less than 4 minutes left in the first quarter by a three pointer from Fanny Hulmi followed by two free throws form Danielle Norquest to take the score 11-9.
 
In the first couple of minutes of the second quarter, Gaines hit a three pointer for the Hawks to takeover the lead 17-16. Another back and forth battle for the lead the Argos took the lead of 35-33 heading into halftime.

Coming out of the locker room the Hawks tied the game up, 35-35, with two free throws from Chatham Brown. During the third quarter the Hawks kept the Argos from taking the momentum with Kelly Pickett hitting a three-pointer to end the third quarter with the Argos still leading 53-52.

Going into the fourth quarter, Chatham Brown scored a free throw to even the score to 53-53. Right after West Florida went on a scoring rally by scoring eight points in two minutes, 61-53. The Hawks tried to close the score gap to three points with a jumper from Gaines followed by a three pointer from Christian Bolden with four minutes left in the fourth. The Hawks kept trying to rally points together but the Argos answered back every time causing the Hawks unable to take the lead to finish out the game.

Gaines had a season high night with 25 points and seven rebounds. Brown and Bolden both contributed 12 points each along with Kelly Pickett adding in 11 points. Also, Brown recorded 11 rebounds and one steal. For the Argos, Gabby Brown lead the team with 16 points and eight rebounds.
 
The Lady Hawks will look to come back strong tomorrow, February 30th  as they face off against West Florida with tip off slated for 2p.m.
