ROME, Ga – Shorter Men's Basketball team started off 2021 with a 75-70 win in there first game of the season against University of West Georgia.
The Hawks improve to 1-0 and the Wolves fall to 0-3 on the season. In the first half the Hawks came out ready to play and took the lead from the beginning and kept it to head into the half with a score of 38-35. Coming out from the half the Wolves had some momentum behind them by taking the lead from the Hawks within three minutes of the second half. With just over 10 minutes left in the game the Hawks went on a scoring rally starting out with a three pointer by Grant Atchely followed by back to back jumpers from Charles Botchway to get the Hawks within two points of taking the lead, 59-57. Next up, Botchway comes in clutch with a three pointer to take the lead. The Wolves were unable to take the lead back from the Hawks as they sailed through the last 10 minutes.
Senior Botchway lead the Hawks with a game high of 21 points, three steals and made 7 for 11 in field goals. Sophomore Kelan Walker added in 20 points and shot 8-13 on two pointers. West Georgia's Oronte' Anderson had a team high of 16 points and three assists.
The Hawks are back in action against the Wolves tomorrow, January 3rd at the Winthrop-King Centre with tipoff slated for 2 p.m.
