The Shorter Hawks (1-0,0-0) were able to win again in game 2 of the double header against the Miles Golden Bears (0-1,0-0).

The second game of the double header was scoreless through the first four innings, but Shorter was able to get on the board in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by
Cory Mason that scored
Nathaniel Butterworth, and gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Justin Barnes scored on a failed pickoff attempt to second base in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 2-0 for Shorter. Miles was able to score three in the bottom of the sixth off of Shorter starter
Chad Davis to give them the lead at 3-2.

In the top of the seventh the Hawks were able to score two to give them a 4-3 lead. Barnes hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored pinch runner
Ivan Nunez from third, tying the game at 3-3, and then
Michael Avendano was able to reach on a fielder's choice scoring
Aaron Reardon to bring the score to 4-3.

Miles would load the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but senior pitcher
Kevin Ludden was able to find a way to get out of the jam and secure the Hawks second win of the season by a score of 4-3.

Freshman Davis picked up his first win of his college career behind a strong showing. Davis pitched 6 innings, giving up 3 runs (2 earned), and striking out 5 in the contest. Ludden picked up the save for the Hawks, allowing 0 runs and striking out 2.
