The Shorter Hawks (8-1,1-1) walked it off against the Emmanuel Lions (3-7,2-1) in a game that was rescheduled from Tuesday February 18
th to Monday February 17
th.

The Hawks jumped on the board early in the bottom of the first when
Cory Mason drove in
Justin Barnes on a fly ball to left field, that the left fielder dropped, and added another run in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by third baseman
Luis Acevedo, giving the Hawks an early 2-0 advantage.

However, Emmanuel would answer back with four runs in the top of the second inning. Jorge Villalabos had an RBI single to left field, Luke Patty had an RBI fielder's choice, Demetrius Foster had an RBI single to left, and Justin Henle added an RBI double to give the Lions the 4-2 lead.

The Hawks would add a run in the bottom of the third when
Michael Avendano scored on a wild pitch, making the score 4-3 still in favor of Emmanuel.

The Lions would add two more runs in the top of the fifth on a solo homerun by Clayton Jones, and a double by Patty to extend their lead to 6-3.

Shorter would answer with two of their own in the bottom of the fifth on a double by
Justin Guyton that scored Avendano, and on a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Mason, bringing the score to 6-5 still in favor of the Lions.

The Lions would score one more run in the top of the 6
th to make the score 7-5, but that would be the last run that they would score in the contest.

Shorter would score two runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 7-7, one on a
Bailey Gerstner single to left and another when
Justin Barnes score on a rundown that Nunez got caught in when he was caught trying to steal second.

Kevin Ludden would shut down the Lions offense in the top of the 9
th, and
Nathaniel Butterworth would come up with the biggest hit of the ball game when he stroked a full count pitch off the wall in left to give Shorter the walk off win by a score of 8-7.

Ludden picked up his second win of the season out of the bullpen by throwing 3.2 scoreless innings, and striking out 4 batters.

Shorter will be back at home this weekend when they welcome Oakland City University for a three game set. There will be a double header on Saturday starting at noon, and one game on Sunday with 1:00 pm eastern start.
