The Shorter Hawks (6-0,0-0) dropped game 1 of Saturday's double header to the Valdosta State Blazers (4-2,0-0) by a score of 5-1. Jacob Arizpe started game 1 for the Hawks, and he faced off against Tristan Cone for the Blazers.
 
Valdosta State got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning. Alec Aleywine beat out an infield single that scored Dalton Board. Logan Stephens then hit a triple to center field that scored Aleywine. Mike Christopoulos then hit a two run home run that gave the Blazers a 4-0 lead after 1 inning.
 
The Hawks answered back with a run of their own in the top half of the second inning on a Jakob Woods RBI single to center that scored Cory Mason making the score 4-1 still in favor of the Blazers.
 
The score remained 4-1 until the bottom of the eight when Ryan Delnegro hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Jordan Holt, extending the Blazers lead to 5-1.
 
Arizpe pitched 4 innings for the Hawks, giving up 4 runs, all earned, and striking out 2 Blazers. Jaydon Berry pitched 3 innings for the Hawks giving up 1 earned run, and striking out 2. Kenny Jinks faced 1 batter, giving up a hit, and Brock Sinaly threw 1 scoreless inning to round out the pitching for the Hawks in game 1.
 
Cone got the win for the Blazers throwing 7 innings in his start for the Blazers. Cone gave up 1 run, which was earned, and struck out 9 Hawks. Aleywine got the save throwing 2 innings in relief for the Blazers.
