Cleveland, MS- To start out the new year the Hawks traveled to Cleveland, MS to compete against Delta State University.
It was a tough match up between two GSC opponents, at the end of the first half the score was 31-30 favoring Delta State, the game was tied up on three occasions and the lead changed one time. The hawks had the largest lead in the second half leading by four points against the Statesmen.
Ja'cori Wilson led the team in points, rebounds and assists, scoring 20 points, with 12 rebounds and three assists to help the Hawks maintain the competition.
Jay Shropshire and
Bryan Polanco were both instrumental to the game for the Hawks. Shropshire scored 17 points for the Hawks with two assists and two rebounds. Polanco was able to get 14 point on the board with three assists and two rebounds as well.
The Hawks scored 16 points from turnovers, three second chance points and six fast-break points to total a score of 62, with Delta State leading them with 73. The Hawks have another chance for a win in Mississippi as they take on the Mississippi College Choctaws on Saturday January 4
