Hawks Fly Past Mars Hill

The Shorter Men's Soccer team opened their season at home against Mars Hill.

Thallison Alex scored two goals and Jackson Wheatley added an insurance goal as the Hawks soared past Mars Hill University 3-1 in the season opened on Ben Brady Field Saturday night.

The visitors scored first but The Hawks answered 3 minutes later when Alex converted on a penalty kick. Alex struck again in the second period on a blast from 15 yards before Wheatley sealed the game from a Luke Wheeldon pass with 8 minutes left. Matt Shorrocks notched his first NCAA Division II win in goal.

"It's a very nice start to our season," said coach Paul Furey. "I'm very proud of the way we competed tonight. We need to keep it going as we head to Florida next week."

The Hawks will be on the road this week heading to Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Fl the game is scheduled for 4:00pm and you can watch the live stats at goshorterhawks.com.
