Second-Half Surge not Enough as Hawks Fall to #12 Lees-McRae in 3-2 Final

ROME, Ga. – The Shorter men's soccer team fell to #12 Lees-McRae 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Ben Brady Field. The loss moves the Hawks to 2-8-2 overall and 1-7-2 in Conference Carolinas play.

Lees-McRae struck early, scoring twice in the opening 11 minutes to take a 2-0 lead. The Bobcats added a third goal in the 31st minute to extend their advantage to three. Shorter responded in the 37th minute when Jesus Tapia found the back of the net off an assist from Melvin Velasquez, cutting the deficit to 3-1 before halftime.

The Hawks continued to battle in the second half, with Issac Cruz scoring an unassisted goal in the 74th minute to bring Shorter within one. However, despite a strong effort late, Shorter was unable to find the equalizer in the closing minutes.

Zachary Lunceford recorded five saves in goal for the Hawks, making big stops late to keep the Hawks in striking distance.
