Hawks split doubleheader with Auburn Montgomery

Montgomery, Ala. -- The Hawks split the GSC doubleheader with Auburn Montgomery on the road Sunday afternoon; falling in the opener 3-2, before taking the finale 11-2.

Shorter moves to 18-18 overall and 8-12 in conference play; while the Warhawks move to 15-12 on the season and 5-15 in the GSC.

GAME 1: AUM 3, SU 2
The game remained scoreless until the fifth, when Auburn Montgomery tallied an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead, before adding to it in the seventh to make it a 2-0 game. Shorter broke through in the eighth to tie the things up as Isaiah Maddela brought in two runs on a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Hawks then had a baserunner in the ninth but weren't able to push a run across to take the lead. Only to have the Warhawks load the bases before an RBI single brought in the game winner.

Micah Wyatt took the loss, as the winning run was charged to him after working .1 innings with a walk. Jacob Ramos made the start, getting a no-decision, after pitching eight innings; while, allowing two runs on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

Maddela and Nathaniel Butterworth each finished with two hits on the afternoon.

GAME 2: SU 11, AUM 2
The Hawks jumped out to an early 8-0 lead after the first inning; sending 14 batters to the plate and tallying seven hits – more than in the entire first game combined. AUM answered with two runs in the second to cut into the lead. But, that would be as close as they'd get as Shorter added three additional runs – two in the fourth and one in the seventh. The runs in the fourth came on back-to-back homeruns from Samyr Santos and Maddela.

Rhys Pollock earned the win, allowing no runs on one hits with two walks and strikeout through 3.1 innings of relief. Banks Woodley made the start – facing one batter – while, Jesse Wheeler added two inning and Jacob Farmer tallied 1.2 innings.
