Hawks fall to UAH in home finale

ROME -- The Hawks closed out the home portion of their schedule Friday night with ta 12-1 loss to Alabama Huntsville in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

With the loss, Shorter moves to 1-12 overall and 0-4 in the GLVC; while the Chargers improve to 8-5 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.

Despite falling behind 3-0 after the first quarter, the Hawks set the tone early that goals wouldn't be easy to come by for the Chargers as it took until their tenth shot of the game to find the back of the net, thanks to strong play from Shorter goalie, Garry Robinson.

UAH added three goals in the second quarter, as well, to take a 6-0 lead into halftime.

Shorter finally broke through for their only score of the game to open the third period as Jacob Woodard found the back of the net moments into the frame.

From there, the Chargers added three goals in the third and three in the fourth for the 12-1 final score.

Robinson was dominant in goal for the Hawks, tallying 31 saves in the contest – moving into first place on Shorter's all-times saves list with a career total of 469.

In total, UAH outshot the Hawks 57-19; while holding a 43-11 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-10 lead in face-off wins.

For Shorter, Woodard scored the lone goal; while Logan Miller led the offensive effort with five shots. Defensively, Morgan added three caused turnovers and three ground balls; while River Ledbetter chipped in with two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Luke LeVette led UAH with three goals; while John Forrest Ruble added three caused turnovers.
