ROME --Â The Hawks dropped both ends of the Friday doubleheader with Montevallo, falling in the opener 6-2, before losing the finale 1-0.
Shorter moves to 20-20 on the season and 9-14 in conference play; while the Falcons improve to 29-13 overall and 15-7 in the GSC.
GAME 1: UM 6, SU 2
After falling behind 6-0 as the Falcons scored twice in each the third, sixth and seventh; Shorter broke through from two runs for the 6-2 final score. The Hawks first run of the game came in the eighth as
Matt Christian scored on an RBI single from
Nathaniel Butterworth. While, the second run came in the ninth when
Isaiah Maddela scored on a single to right field by
Hunter Reaid.
Jacob Ramos took the loss, allowing six runs – four earned – on seven hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
Butterworth led the offense with two hits and an RBI.
GAME 2: UM 1, SU 0
Montevallo scored what proved to be enough in the second inning as Ryan Brooks brought in Chad Wagner on a groundout to shortstop. The Hawks had baserunners in four of the seven innings but weren't able to push a run across as they were held scoreless.
Banks Woodley took the loss, allowing one run on seven hits with seven strikeouts through a complete game, seven inning performance.
Five different players finished with one hit in the game.
