Cleveland, Miss. --Â The Hawks shut out No. 2 Delta State, 3-0, Sunday afternoon to win the Gulf South Conference series on the road.
With the win, Shorter improves to 13-16 overall and 5-10 in the GSC; while the Statesmen move to 20-6 on the season and 11-3 in conference play.
The Hawks got things going in the second when
Angel Acosta scored on a wild pitch to make it a 1-0 game. Before adding two in the seventh for the 3-0 score. First, as
Ricky Alvarez came in on a wild pitch after reaching base on an error, and as
Matt Christian score on a ground out from
Luis Acevedo.
Jacob Ramos earned the win, to move to 2-6 on the season, allowing two hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Micah Wyatt earned the save, his first of the year, allowing one hit with two walks through 2.2 innings.
Alvarez finished the day 3-4 at the plate; while
Isaiah Maddela and Christian each added one hit apiece.
The Hawks return home to host Carson-Newman on Tuesday at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.
