Hawks fall to West Georgia, 6-4

ROME -- West Georgia took the series from the Hawks with a 6-4 win on Saturday afternoon at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.

With the loss, Shorter moves to 10-15 overall and 3-9 in the GSC; while the Wolves improve to 17-7 overall and 7-5 in conference play.

West Georgia opened the scoring, tacking on one in the top of the first on a single from Price Peters. Only to have the Hawks come back and tie the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from Samyr Santos. The Wolves countered with three runs to regain the advantage, 4-1. But, again Shorter answered; this time as Santos delivered his 10th homerun of the year to cut the lead to two in the fourth inning. Before making it a one run game, 4-3, in the seventh on an RBI single from Luis Acevedo.

West Georgia added some insurance in the eighth with a pair of runs, before the Hawks came back in the bottom of the inning on a pinch-hit single from Victor Perez to make it a 6-4. From there Shorter threatened for more, loading the bases in the eighth and putting two on the ninth, but all were stranded as the Wolves held on for the 6-4 win.

Jacob Ramos took the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits with a walk and six strikeouts through five innings of work. Trey Urban added three innings of relief, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout. While, Micah Wyatt pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Santos finished the game 3-3 at the plate with two RBI; while Acevedo added two hits and an RBI.

The Hawks will be back in action Tuesday afternoon as they welcome Emmanuel College to Rome for a non-conference matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm.
