Young Harris sweeps Baseball in non-conference play

Young Harris, Ga. -- Both games came down to the last at-bat as Young Harris swept the Hawks in non-conference play Thursday afternoon; winning the opener 5-4, before taking the finale 3-2.

Shorter slips to 2-4 overall; while the Mountain Lions improve to 2-3 on the season.

In game one, Shorter struck first; scoring in the first inning on an RBI single from Samyr Santos. Young Harris countered with two in the bottom of the inning to take the lead and added to it in the third with a solo homerun for the 3-1 score. The Hawks answered in the seventh to take the lead, 4-3, on a three-run homer from Luis Acevedo – the first of his career. Only to have the Mountain Lions score in the bottom of the inning to tie the game and earn the win with a run in the ninth for the 5-4 score.

Peyton Moore took the loss, after coming in for the final 1.2 innings in relief of Banks Woodley; who pitched the first seven innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Acevedo finished the game with two hits to lead the Hawks.

In game two, Young Harris took an early 2-0 lead on a run in each of the first and second innings. Shorter answered, however, in the third to tie the game. First, as Matt Christian scored on a sacrifice fly from Raul Cortes, before Ivan Nunez came in on a wild pitch for the 2-2 score. The game remained tied until the Mountain Lions' final at-bat when they tacked on a final run for the 3-2 score.

Jacob Ramos pitched the complete game, allowing one earned run on seven hits with six strikeouts.

The Hawks will close out the series with Young Harris Friday afternoon at 1:00pm.
