Dayton, Tenn. --Â The Lady Hawks earned their first win of the year Wednesday afternoon, 1-0, over Bryan College on the road.
The win improves Shorter to 1-1 overall and gives first year head coach,
Olivia Bloemke, her first career win; while the Lions move to 0-2 on the season.
The game remained scoreless for most of the first half, despite chances on both sides. The Lady Hawks opened the period with three shots, while Bryan took four before, Shorter broke through for the go ahead in the 32nd minute as
Corrie Thomas netted her first score of the year on a pass from
Madison Morlock.
From there the Lady Hawks defense stepped up, holding the Lions to just two shots through the remainder of the game and only one in the second half. While, tacking on two of their own. Each team finished with six shots on the afternoon, with the Lady Hawks only shot on target proving to be the difference.
Sydney Durham played the complete game in goal, saving each of the three shots from Bryan that were on target.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Friday and Sunday in a pair of non-conference home matches before starting conference play next week. Friday's matchup with Reinhardt is set for a 7:00pm start, while Sunday's in-region clash with Spring Hill is set for 1:00pm.
