Lady Hawks outlast Southern Wesleyan in home opener

ROME -- The Lady Hawks got back into the win column for the first time since the season's first match Wednesday as they topped Southern Wesleyan 3-1 at home.

The win improves Shorter to 2-3 on the year; while the Warriors also move to 2-3 with the loss. The win also marks the Lady Hawks' 16th straight at home, dating back to the 2015 season.

It was a back and forth match for the first two sets, as both needed extra points to determine a winner. Shorter took the first 26-24, before fall in the second 37-35. The Lady Hawks then closed out the win with 25-22 and 25-16 scores in the final sets.

At the service line, Shorter held an 8-3 advantage in aces; while producing 8 blocks on the night to SWU's 5.

Tiffani Estep led the attack in the win, hitting .522 for the match with 13 kills and five blocks. While, Madeline Munroe added a team high 15 kills, both Kelsi Jones and Danielle Melton finished the night with 12 kills. Tinsley Fain posted a season high in assists with 33, and Iva Luther turned in 26.

On the receiving end, Morgan Cleveland led the way with 20 digs, while Cheyenne McLemore chipped in 19 and Fain added 11.

In addition to Estep's five blocks, Cleveland had a hand in four. And, both, posted two service aces for the night.
