Hawks fall to Florida Tech, 5-1

Melbourne, Fla. -- The Hawks dropped the final game of the Florida road trip to Florida Tech, 5-1, Monday afternoon.

For the second time this weekend the Hawks had to endure a rain delay of more than an hour, this time before the game even started. But, when the game did start the Panthers made the most of their first attempt, as Luca Campanini found the back of the net on the game's first shot to give his team a 1-0 advantage.

And, despite chances from both teams the score stood through the first half. Shorter finally broke through, however, with an answer to tie the game moments into the second half as Hassane Traore netted his first goal of the season on a pass from Felix Guijosa.

From there, though, Florida Tech picked up the pace, firing off 16 shots in the period and adding four goals for the 5-1 final score.

In total, the Panthers outshot the Hawks 19-9, with an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Shorter 'keeper, Sean Carpenter, tallied six saves in goal, allowing four goals, through 78:02 minutes of play; while Luis Vazquez saw his first action in goal for the Hawks Sunday afternoon, allowing the final goal of the game in 11:58 minutes.

The Hawks return to action Thursday, September 7, as they travel to Dalton, Ga. to take on Dalton State. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
