Hawks fall to Dalton State in overtime

Dalton, Ga. -- After coming from behind to tie the game in the final minutes, the Hawks fell to Dalton State, 2-1, in overtime Thursday evening.

With the loss, Shorter moves to 0-4 on the year; while the Roadrunners improve to 3-1.

Shots came at premium in the first half, with the Hawks being held to one through the first 45 minutes; while Dalton State struck for two including the go ahead in the 28th minute. Down 1-0, at the half, Shorter worked to gain ground and finally broke through just before then end of regulation to force extra time as Justen Macias netted his second goal of the season to tie things up 1-1.

In overtime, the Roadrunners managed all the offense, taking three shots with Shorter 'keeper, Sean Carpenter, making saves on the first two, before DSC got the game-winner on the 93rd minute.

In total, the Roadrunners outshot the Hawks 11-4, while holding a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Carpenter finished with 5 saves on the night in a complete game performance.

Shorter will have a week off before opening Gulf South Conference play at home Friday, September 15, against Mississippi College. Game time is set for 7:30pm from Ben Brady Field.
