ROME --Â The Lady Hawks saw their first defeat at the Winthrop-King Centre since October 2015, Saturday afternoon as West Alabama topped Shorter 3-0.
With the loss, the Lady Hawks move to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play; while the Tigers improve to 11-6 on the year and 3-1 in the GSC.
For the afternoon, West Alabama used set wins of 25-23, 25-21, and 25-17 to take the victory.
Tiffani Estep was the lone Lady Hawks to reach double figures in kills, tallying 10 for game; while
Morgan Cleveland added six and
Madeline Munroe finished with five.
Alli Bell led the effort with 11 assists to go along with 10 from
Tinsley Fain. Bell also posted three of Shorter's five service aces.
On defense,
Cheyenne McLemore led with 11 digs, while Bell chipped in with six and
Annie Homan with four. At the net, Estep posted two blocks – one solo and one assist.
The Lady Hawks will look to get back in the win column Tuesday when they travel to Florence, Ala. for the lone meeting with North Alabama for the year. Game time from Flowers Hall is set for 6:00pm ET.
