Florence, Ala. --Â Women's soccer fell to No. 8 North Alabama, 3-1, Friday evening on the road.
The loss drops the Lady Hawks to 1-6-1 on the season and 0-5 in the Gulf South Conference; while the Lions improve to 8-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
UNA got on the board first, scoring their first goal of the night in the opening minute. Only to have Shorter answer minutes later, on the fourth score of the season from
Taylor Hendrix – assisted by
Amberly Halstead – to tie things up 1-1. From there, the Lions turned in two more goals over the next six minutes to extend their lead to 3-1, for the score that would stand despite chance on both sides.
In total, North Alabama outshot the Lady Hawks 21-8; while holding a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Sydney Durham played the complete game in goal for Shorter, making seven saves. Hendrix and
Corrie Thomas led the attack with two shots each; whiel five other players tallied a shot in the game, as well.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Sunday afternoon, October 1, when they travel to Carrollton, Ga. to take on West Georgia. Game time is set for 1:00pm.
