Tigerville, S.C. -- The Hawks topped North Greenville, 2-1, in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening on the road.
With the win, Shorter improves to 3-6 on the year; while the Crusaders move to 2-6 overall.
Shorter got on the board first, scoring in the second minute of play as
Mattia Pace netted a header off a corner kick fromÂ
Richard Coomer for his second goal of the season and first since the season opener. The score stood throughout the remainder of the period, until
Jordan Etsio extended the Shorter lead to 2-0 with his second goal of year just before the halftime break.
The Hawks maintained the two-point advantage for most of the second half, until North Greenville broke through to avoid the shut out with a score of their own in the 77th minute off the foot of Gareth Greene.
In total, the Crusaders held an 11-7 advantage in shots in the game; while also leading in shots on goal 5-2 with both of Shorter's on goal shots going for points.
Luis Vazquez made his first start of the year in goal for the Hawks, posting four saves through 90-minutes of play.
The Hawks return to action Friday evening, as they travel to longtime rival, Lee University, for coach
Paul Furey's first return to Cleveland since taking over for Shorter this year, after six years as the Flames' head coach. Game time is set for 7:00pm from the Lee Soccer Field.
