MEMPHIS -- For the second time in as many matches the Lady Hawks needed all five sets to earn the win, this time over Christian Brothers, 3-2, on the road.
Shorter improves to 8-4 on the year and 2-1 in the GSC; while the Lady Bucs move to 7-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Christian Brothers took an early lead with a 25-18 win in set one. Only to have the Lady Hawks came back to take the lead 2-1 with 25-18, 25-19 wins in sets two and three, respectively. The Lady Bucs then tied things up with a 25-22 win in set four, before Shorter won the final set 15-11 to earn the win.
In total, the Lady Hawks tallied 8 aces on the afternoon, while coming up with 10 blocks, and 62 kills.
Madeline Munroe led the attack with 17 kills, whereas
Tiffani Estep added 14 and
Annie Homan finished with 10. At the service line,
Danielle Melton, Homan and
Cheyenne McLemore recorded two aces apiece. And,
Alli Bell led the way with 29 assists, to go along with 22 from
Tinsley Fain.
On defense, McLemore posted 22 digs in the match, while
Morgan Cleveland added ten and Homan chipped in with fourteen. At the net, Estep led the effort with five blocks – one solo and four assists – both
Kelsi Jones and Cleveland chipped in with three each.
Shorter will look to keep the momentum going next week when they return home to take on Mississippi College and West Alabama on September 29 and 30, respectively.
