Charlotte, N.C. -- The Lady Hawks dropped both on the final day of the road trip to North Carolina this weekend. In game one, Wingate earned the win 3-0 on set scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 30-28. While, California (Pa.) took a 3-1 decision on scores of 22-25, 25-15, 23-25, 20-25.
On offense against the Bulldogs,
Danielle Melton led the Lady Hawks with nine kills; while
Madeline Munroe chipped in with seven and
Annie Homan added five.
Iva Luther led the way with 16 assists, and
Tinsley Fain added 10. On the serve, Luther and
Kelsi Jones each posted two aces.
On defense,
Cheyenne McLemore led with 11 digs; with
Annie Homan tallying nine and both,
Morgan Cleveland and Fain pitching in with seven. And, for the game, the Lady Hawks finished with five blocks –
Tiffani Estep posted two, both assisted.
In game two, the Lady Hawks took game two from the Vulcans, to escape the sweep with three players finishing with double-figures in kills. Munroe led with 14, and was followed by Jones with 13 and Estep with 10. Fain dished out 26 assists in the match, to go along with 17 from Luther.
While, on defense Cleveland led the effort with 19 digs. McLemore added 13 in the loss, and Fain posted 12. At the net, Estep added to her blocks total for the year with four – two solo and two assisted.
Shorter will look to get back on track Wednesday evening, September 6, when they open the home portion of the season with a non-conference matchup with Southern Wesleyan. The Lady Hawks enter the match on a 15-game win streak at the Winthrop-King Centre, having gone 11-0 at home last year. Game time Wednesday is set for 7:00pm.
