Florida Southern tops the Hawks, 4-1

Lakeland, Fla. -- The Hawks fell to Florida Southern 4-1 Saturday afternoon in the second game of the three-game trip to the Sunshine State to start the season.

The loss drops Shorter to 0-2 on the young season; while the Mocs start the year 1-0.

Florida Southern got on the board first with a score in the fifth minute as Carl Spansk found the back of the net for the first time in 2017, before making it a 2-0 game in the 24th minute on kick from Fred Lundahl.

Shorter struck for their only goal of the game, off the foot of Felix Guijosa, to cut the lead in half with 18 minutes to play in the first half.

The Mocs added two more scores in the final seven minutes of the game, both from Romain Voirin, for the 4-1 final score.

The Hawks were held to five shots in the game, while Florida Southern tallied 20 – 12 on goal. The difference, however, came as Sean Carpenter posted a career high in saves with 8.

Shorter will close out the road trip Monday afternoon at Florida Tech. Game time is set for 12:00pm from Melbourne, Fla.
