Huntsville, Ala. --Â The Lady Hawks opened Gulf South Conference play Tuesday night, falling to Alabama Huntsville, 3-1, on the road.
The loss, moves Shorter to 6-4 on the season and 0-1 in the GSC; while the Chargers improve to 10-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Alabama Huntsville took an early lead in the match, winning the first set 25-23; before the Lady Hawks came back in the second to tie things up with a 25-21 win. The Chargers then closed out the win with 25-22 and 25-18 victories in the third and four sets, respectively, to earn the win. The match win for UAH is just the second in the series, and Shorter holds a 13-2 advantage in the overall matchup.
Kelsi Jones led the Lady Hawks in the game, turning in a 12-kill night to go along with six blocks, three service aces and a .429 hitting percentage.
Madeline Munroe added nine kills, while
Tiffani Estep chipped in with eight.
Annie Homan and
Morgan Cleveland, both added seven for the game.Â
Alli Bell, who was making her first appearance of the season, led the effort with 24 assists; while
Tinsley Fain added 15.
On defense, five players finished with double-figure digs; with
Cheyenne McLemore leading the way with 20. Homan was next with 16; while Cleveland and Fain added 11 apiece and Bell chipped in with ten. At the net, in addition to Jones's six, Estep had a hand in three blocks, and Homan assisted on two.
The Lady Hawks will look to get back in the win column this weekend as they travel to Union and Christian Brothers to continue GSC play. Game time on Friday at Union is set for 8:00pm ET, while Saturday's match at CBU is set to begin at 3:00pm ET.
